THE KERN COUNTY SCOTTISH SOCIETY

Wisdom, Justice, Integrity and Compassion.

KC Scottish Society was established in July 1971 in Bakersfield, California and was formed to promote & preserve Scottish heritage, language and cultural traditions through education and social events held in Kern County. In 1998 the Society became a non-profit, educational corporation, which relies solely on membership, donations and sponsorships and is strictly run and operated by volunteers. None of our volunteers including the Chieftain and Members of the Board of Directors, are financially compensated or are employees of The Kern County Scottish Society.

BRINGING A WEE BIT OF SCOTLAND TO AMERICA

To preserve the Scottish heritage, language and cultural traditions we host a number of events annually such as Highland Games and gatherings and Burns Supper,

We bet you did not know you were singing a Scottish song on New Years Eve!

Auld Lang Syne, is a Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788.

Hogmanay (HUG-ma-NAY) is the Gàidhlig (gal lick) word for New Years Eve.

Members of the Society have the opportunity to learn traditional Highland Dance routines, Bag piping and (Gaelic) Gàidhlig lessons. Keeping culture, traditions and language alive for the next generation. (And you do not have to be Scottish to join!)

WE BELIEVE IN GIVING BACK

We are proud to have provided donations to the Golden Empire Gleaners, Highland High School Pipers, and The Jamison Center Children's Shelter.

Along with volunteering at KCSS, several of our Board Members do volunteer work at local organizations such as C.A.L.M, The Buena Vista Museum of Natural History and Science, Boy Scouts of America, The Copper Horse Riding Ranch, The Bakersfield Pregnancy Center The San Joaquin Lapidary Society, Kern County Mineral Society, All Saints Anglican Church and members of the Arts Council of Bakersfield.

Our Community Partnership Program was designed to offer support to other non-profit organizations and entrepreneurs. This partnership is mutually beneficial to all involved as it helps with events, advertising & marketing, as well as building a strong networking bond within our community.

Check out our calendar pages to see what other events and activities we are involved in.
